What We Collect

Mellamo collects only what's needed to make the app work:

• Account info — If you create an account: your email address and a securely hashed password. If you sign in with Google: your email and display name from Google.
• Swipe data — Which baby names you liked or disliked, used to train your personal preference model.
• Session data — A session ID stored in your browser to maintain your progress. Anonymous sessions don't require any personal information.

What We Don't Collect

• No analytics or tracking scripts
• No advertising cookies
• No third-party data sharing
• No location data
• No device fingerprinting

How We Use Your Data

• Machine learning matches — Your swipe history trains a personal ML model to suggest names you'll like. This model is stored with your session and is not shared.
• Couples matching — If you pair with a partner, both of your preferences are compared to find mutual matches. Only you and your partner see these results.
• Authentication — Your email is used for login and magic link emails only.

Cookies

Mellamo uses only functional cookies required for authentication:

• access_token — Short-lived JWT for API authentication (httpOnly, secure)
• refresh_token — Long-lived token for session renewal (httpOnly, secure)

No analytics, advertising, or tracking cookies are used. Under GDPR, these cookies are classified as "strictly necessary" and do not require consent.

Data Storage & Security

• All data is stored on our servers (Hetzner Cloud, USA)
• Passwords are hashed with Argon2 (industry-standard)
• All connections use HTTPS/TLS encryption
• Auth tokens are httpOnly cookies (not accessible to JavaScript)

Data Retention

• Anonymous sessions are automatically deleted after 30 days of inactivity
• Authenticated accounts are retained until you request deletion
• Expired authentication tokens are automatically cleaned up

Your Rights

You can:

• Access your data — your liked/disliked names are visible in the app
• Delete your data — contact us at privacy@mellamo.com
• Export your data — contact us and we'll provide your data in a standard format

Children's Privacy

Mellamo is designed for expecting parents and does not knowingly collect data from children under 13. The app is about choosing baby names, not used by children.

We may update this policy occasionally. Significant changes will be noted on this page with an updated date.
